Levonorgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol (Oral) are the generic name of Nordette. Each Nordette 28 package contains: 21 yellow, round, bi-convex tablets, each containing;

• Ethinyl estradiol - 30 microgram and
• Levonorgestrel 150 microgram
  

Followed by 7 red, round, bi-convex tablets. A prescription drug Nordette comes in 3x28 packaging; this means a three months supply comes in one packet.

Nordette Usage

Nordette is not a medicine which is used for controlling a birth control, but it can also be used as a reduction in iron-deficiency or anemia; a reduction in the risk of endometrial carcinoma; a reduction in the occurrence of ovarian cysts; a reduction in the incidence of primary dysmenorrhoea; a reduction in the occurrence of ovarian carcinoma and a reduction in the incidence of benign breast lesions, to treat the symptoms of menopause and regulate the menstrual cycle.

Warnings While Using Nordette

Chances of having heart problems are increased when the medicine is used by patients smoking cigarettes. Chances of heart troubles are higher in the women, if they are older than 35 years who smoke more than 15 cigarettes a day. The most important thing which is to be kept in mind is that the medicine will not prevent the spread of STDs. Do not use this drug if you are pregnant or suspect that you are pregnant.

Usage of Nordette

The medicine should be used according to the prescription of the doctor. The most important thing is that the medicine should be taken at the same time every day and not more than 24 hours apart. If any dosage is missed than the medicine should be taken as soon as it is remembered and then the next dose can be taken. It means that two doses can be taken at a time in the same day. The doctor should be consulted if more than 1 dosage is missed by the patient.

Precautions

A significant increase in risk of heart attack, stroke, or blood clot formation occurs when smoking is done by the patient while using Nordette. Also this drug does not protect you from STDs including HIV and AIDS. The effectiveness of the medicine is decreased and pregnancy can result when some other drugs are used. Use another form of birth control if you are on

• A penicillin antibiotic such as amoxicillin, ampicillin, bacampicillin, carbenicillin, cloxacillin, dicloxacillin, nafcillin, oxacillin, or penicillin
• A tetracycline antibiotic such as demeclocycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or tetracycline
• A barbiturate such as amobarbital, butabarbital, mephobarbital, secobarbital, or phenobarbital
• Rifampin
• Phenytoin
• Carbamazepine
• Orgriseofulvin
• The doctor should be informed when you are suffering from any of the following conditions;
• Cancer
• Diabetes
• Headaches or migraines
• High triglyceride levels
• High blood pressure
• Had recent surgery
• Allergies
  

The medicine should not be used if have a history of blood vessel problems in the brain or heart, heart valve problems, heart attacks, uncontrolled high blood pressure, a stroke, abnormal or undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, breast cancer, serious liver problems, blood clots, or blood disorders such as porphyria.
