Valtrex
An antiviral agent which is manufactured by Glaxo Smith Kline is Valtrex. The main purpose of the medicine is to treat herpes zoster infections or genital herpes infections. But the medicine can also be used to prevent infections like oral herpes, genital herpes or varicella-zoster viruses from coming back which are also known as cold sores, sexually transmitted herpes, shingles and chicken-pox. The medicine is not used for curing herpes, but it helps to heal its sores faster and at the same times alleviate any discomfort or pain. This drug maybe also used to help prevent genital herpes from being passed on to a partner who does not have it.
Valacyclovir is the main active ingredient of Valtrex. In each tablet of Valtrex 500 mg to 1 g of valacyclovir is present. In Valtrex inactive ingredients are carnauba wax, colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, FD&C Blue No. 2 Lake, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, povidone, and titanium dioxide.
Special Warnings While Using Valtrex:
Doctor should be consulted immediately if any of the following situations is faced by the patient:
• Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
• Any other condition that may weaken the immune system
• Dehydration
• Kidney disease
• An allergic reaction to valacyclovir, acyclovir, ganciclovir, valganciclovir and other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
• Pregnant or trying to get pregnant or
• Are breast-feeding
It is recommended to consult the doctor if there in no improvement in the symptoms after taking 1 week of Valtrex. The medicine is effective when used early in the case of an infection.
Usage of Valtrex: The easy procedure for taking Valtrex is to take this medicine orally with a full glass of water. The main thing which should be kept in mind is that the medicine should be taken according to prescription and at regular intervals. It is highly recommended that tablets should not be taken more than directed. It is suggested that medicine should not be stopped until the advice of your doctor. When children are using the medicine, sometimes, special care maybe needed. But when if a dosage is missed then it should be taken as soon as you remember and if it is the time of next dosage than you are allowed to miss the skipped dosage. Do not take a double or extra dose of Valtrex.
Drug Interactions Of Valtrex: When Valtrex is used with any of the following medicines, it interacts;
• Cimetidine
• Fosphenytoin
• Phenytoin
• Probenecid
Doctor should be aware regarding all the medicines which you are taking, which includes non-prescription drugs, nutritional supplements, and herbal products. Drinking of caffeine or alcohol frequently should also be in the knowledge of your doctor, and smoking or use of illegal drugs because it can affect the work of Valtrex.

• Changes in your menstrual cycle
• Hives
• Reduced amount of urine passed
• Skin rash
• Stomach pain
• Unusual weakness or tiredness
